   Every heroin addict starts by saying “I just want to try it once”. No one thinks what will happen if they love it.

   At the end of the day heroin addiction, whether you hustle for $10 bags, or get pure smack on prescription, is fucking boring. A constant cycle of getting the drug, taking it to feel normal, on & on & on.

   Methadone & needle exchange is the next best thing to admitting the failure of prohibition & legalisation; yet official US drug policy still refuses to recognises harm reduction.

   Pure diamorphine causes no damage itself to the human body.

   What it does cause is an intensely powerful psychological & physical addiction & dependency, which causes the user to neglect many things to get heroin & avoid withdrawal.

   When the drug is only available illegally the problems multiply. Swiss heroin prescription clinics recorded 80% drop in criminality, & within 2 years the majority reduced their dose, found jobs etc.

   Prohibition didnt work last time & it certainly aint working now.

   Every country should abandon the insane prohibition policies that have brought nothing but increasing drug use & misery for all.

   Anyone who wants heroin gets it; but under a system which is the most unhealthy, personally damaging, detrimental to society & worst of all ENCOURAGES ADDICTION.

   Prohibition makes drugs attractive forbidden fruit, & experimentation follows attraction. The answer is controlled legal availability, & strong anti-drug public health education.

   I think heroin is a lot slower to cause damage than Meth. the damage caused by meth has terrible long-term effects on the mind. However heroin can kill if not used carefully. Society frowns upon it making users alienated, you often lose weight and needle use can damage your whole circulatory system.
   If u use heroin for no more than an eight hour high with a minimum of 72 hours break btween uses u should never suffer physical withdrawals, problem is, most people find it hard to stick to that.

   I was addicted quite some time in Pakistan, also straight across the border from Afghanistan, strongest stuff I ever tried, I was healthy while I was using but the withdrawals nearly killed me…
   I know some people blame impurities 4 withdrawals – not true.
   I think if u can manage to keep eating & get outside regularly u will stay healthy even with a big habit. Its just giving into the temptation of the severely addicted 2 stay in all the time that makes u pasty white & being too lazy 2 eat.

    i agree , i am also an ex addict{25 yrs on streets of australia,malaysia thailand and india) i have seen the suffering caused by zero tolerance ,Irans harm reduction policy puts it on the vanguard of state funded treatment,and whilst i agree buprenorphine is useful for getting off methadone , long term use is just as difficult as done to withdraw from.western governments (re USA) would do well to heed Irans policy.Australia should be far ahead not struggling to maintain services & funding

    Something i noticed different from addicts in say Australia & US is that the addicts in iran look ALOT healthier than addicts from other countries.

    I’m guessing it has something with the purity?? But they don’t look pale, thin or with pimples or bad skin.

    Interesting, the further the drug has to be pushed the more impurities that go into the drug maybe.

    But some looked relatively well for addicts going for 5yrs!!

    I am an ex addict and also work in a needle exchange program part time here in australia. Iran may have the worlds worst heroin problem but they currently also have the worlds most progressive harm minimisation programs as well. Australia isn’t very far behind but in Iran they have recently introduced needle exchanges in prisons as well as methadone. Now if they would look at other substitutes such as buprenorphine they would be saving alot of future pain when people try to wean off methadone.

    I don’t agree with the regime but I don’t think it’s as bad as people say. The US want’s Iran’s resources; they put sanctions on them in order to coax these resources, when Iran still refuses, they threaten war.
    It’s economic warfare and the Iranian people suffer as a result.

    not really, thank the sanctions and the countries trying to steal our oil. Although I don’t agree with the regime, it’s not nearly as bad as some state.
