Sharp Rise in Immigration-Related Kidnappings Prompts New Task Force

Number of Cases Has Increased At Least 324% since 2004

Facing a dramatic increase in kidnappings and other Latin American-style violence related to the illegal immigration crisis, County Andrew Thomas has created a new task force within the County Attorneys Office to combat this dangerous trend. So far this year, Valley police have submitted 204 cases in which a victim or victims were kidnapped and held for ransom. If the rate continues, there will be 275 such cases by the end of the year setting a record for Maricopa County.

As the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association has noted, this trend in violent crime has its roots in the illegal immigration crisis. For those cases in which kidnapping for ransom is the highest charge, 74% of

the defendants sentenced in 2007 in Maricopa County were found to be in the United States illegally. The sentencing range is typically between 7 and 15 years in prison. Violent kidnappings and worse have increasingly plagued law enforcement in Mexico and the nations border cities. On October 23, at least 10 people were killed in a gunfight in Nogales. Nogales and other Mexican border cities have become battlegrounds for Mexican drug cartels fighting to control smuggling routes into Arizona and other parts of the United States. To prevent this violence from spreading further into Maricopa County, the County Attorneys Office has reached out to Valley police by assigning specific prosecutors to handle these cases. Attorneys in the Special Crimes Bureau, which already handles the offices human-smuggling cases, have been tasked with cracking down on kidnappers. Three attorneys from that bureau have been designated to work with law enforcement much in the same way the offices Repeat Offender Bureau works with specially trained detectives.

Thomas stated, These kidnappings threaten the safety of neighborhoods all over the Valley. We have to stop this trend before the violence escalates. This problem is yet another unfortunate byproduct of the illegal immigration crisis, which jeopardizes the lives of not only U.S. citizens but also immigrants, legal and illegal.

Thomas was joined by Mark Spencer, president of the Phoenix Law Enforcement Association. Spencer has called Phoenix the kidnapping capital of America because of the spike in violence associated with illegal immigration.

Here are some recent cases prosecuted this year by the County Attorneys Office:

On January 26, 2008 an 18-year-old Phoenix girl was kidnapped at gunpoint from her home. The kidnappers bound her hands and feet and held her against her will for four days. As the parents tried to negotiate the teens release, a second victim was kidnapped and after his family gave the kidnappers four vehicles he was released. He then led the police to the house where the Phoenix girl was held. Phoenix Police tracked down and arrested the suspects.

On October 15, 2007 the defendants kidnapped a man from his car at gunpoint. They then called the victims wife and said the victims head would be left on her front porch if she didnt pay the ransom. Phoenix Police rescued the victim and arrested the suspects.

The most expensive secret you’re not supposed to know is that George W. Bush leaves office with the planet cooler than when he entered. This dangerous trend threatens the multi-billion dollar “global warming” industry, adding new urgency to the ritual shriek of “we must act now!” in the scramble to impose a costly regime of mandates and energy taxes.

The global warming industry’s tactics already range from comical to reprehensible. As a result of a cooling atmosphere — which thanks to the “global cooling” panic we began measuring in 1979 — you are distracted with irrelevant surface temperatures. This is possibly because more than 90% of our surface thermometer network is in violation of rules for locating the instruments. For example, why are so many now on asphalt parking lots, black tar roofs, airport tarmacs, and even hanging directly above barbeque grills?

Such childishness is only the tip of the iceberg of outrages employed to advance an ideological agenda. Our schools torment those whom they are charged with protecting from abuse, with night terrors among the less egregious outcomes. Their brainwashing includes **** mail campaigns to skeptics, reporting on their parents’ willingness to adopt an agenda, and even emotional breakdown requiring institutionalization.

While a fierce debate rages over the dramatic rise in prescriptions for “ADHD” for children as young as four, there is another side to the ADHD medication issue—street use of these drugs.

In fact, in Australia a street name for Ritalin is “poor man’s cocaine” and there are stories of kids who are prescribed these drugs, selling them to their friends and crushing and snorting the powder.

There was a ten-fold increase in these prescriptions from 1993 to 2003. This is a dangerous trend.

According to one Australian youth, “it’s surprisingly easy to get dexamphetamines (a substance that is primarily used for treatment of ADD/ADHD) by pretending you have ADD, especially if someone who has been through the interview process coaches you with the right things to say.”

But why would people cheat to get prescribed an ADHD drug? In 2000, the Deputy Director of the Office of Diversion Control of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration briefed the U.S. Congress on the results of studies on both animals and humans who were given cocaine and Ritalin, saying “neither animals nor humans can tell the difference between cocaine, amphetamine, or methylphenidate (Ritalin) when they are administered the same way at comparable doses. In short, they produce effects that are nearly identical.”

And Australian statistics show these drugs are used on the street for the same reason. Seventeen percent of young “serious offenders” currently use dexamphetamines and benzodiazepines (chemical compounds used as anti-anxiety agents and muscle relaxants) in addition to heroin, cocaine/crack, street methadone, and morphine, and seven percent of all 14 year olds have tried amphetamines or speed (this figure includes illicit use of Ritalin or dexamphetamines).

I work as the coordinator of the Drug Free Ambassadors in Sydney, a drug educational program that is co-sponsored by Scientology churches throughout Australia and New Zealand. Humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard pointed out “…drugs set you up to get into situations which are truly disastrous and keep you that way.” It is my hope that through my work, and that of other dedicated volunteers and like-minded organizations, more and more youths will get the truth about these drugs and consider a drug-free life.
