John Frank asked:

Although many people believe that addiction is simply a psychological disease or a spiritual affliction, one that could be handled simply by the force of sheer willpower, those who suffer from addiction know better. Many drug rehab programs focus on only the psychological aspects of addiction and believe that by handling the addict’s mind the addiction can be cured.

However addiction affects the mind, the body, and the spirit and all three of these aspects must be addressed in order to overcome addiction. When only the mind has been addressed in a drug rehab program, then the addict is still left with physical and spiritual afflictions caused by addiction. When addicts are told to turn their power over to a force outside themselves and that this is a necessary step in combating their addiction, the addict’s mind and body still suffer, and the likelihood of recovery is minimal.

Those drug rehab programs falter in that they fail to address the mind, the body, and the spirit. It is no wonder that so many drug rehab programs have such low success rates. 12-Step programs focus on the mind and the spirit by addressing addiction as a disease, one that an addict is powerless over. Other programs focus on only the mental aspects and believe that through therapy that addresses the reasons why an addict turned to drugs then an addict can cure the addiction. Still other programs simply believe that after a few days of detoxification, the addict’s body is recovered. None of these methods, although helpful in the short term, provide a long-lasting solution to addiction.

A successful drug rehab program understands that the mental, spiritual, and physical aspects must be completely handled in order for the addict to overcome addiction, and that it is an investment in one’s future life.
Mentally, the drug rehab program must provide a safe environment where the addict can deal with the issues that led him or her to drugs in the first place. In addition, the drug rehab program must help the addict change thinking patterns so that when faced with challenging issues, the addict has new and productive ways of dealing with life.

Physically, the drug rehab program must provide a detoxification program that thoroughly cleanses and returns the body to a state that is not affected by drug residues that remain in the body. If a drug rehab program does not offer a full and complete detoxification program, the addict will continue to be triggered or negatively affected by the residues left in the body.

Spiritually, the drug rehab program must understand that each individual addict perceives the spirit in a different light. The drug rehab program must respect these differing beliefs and allow the drug addict to follow his own opinion and belief system about what the spirit is, regardless of what anyone else believes.

The drug rehab program that addresses the mental, physical and spiritual aspects of addiction will give the drug addict the power to completely overcome his addiction. His mind will be healed. His body will be cleansed. His spirit will be realized. And his addiction will be left in the past.

Art Gib asked:

Every year, literally millions of Americans suffer from the gripping pain of drug addiction. Whether the addiction involves marijuana, heroin, cocaine, club drugs or prescription drugs, addiction is a powerful force to contend. Many drug users do want to be free of their addiction, but feel incapable of accomplishing the task on their own. This is why many addicts seek help at a supportive and caring drug rehab center.

Many people who eventually enter a drug rehab center have already tried to break free of addiction on their own. Independent struggles with drug addiction are much more common than the team effort found in rehab center because new fears often arise when addicts first think about turning to someone else for help. For example, to obtain the valuable support that is so beneficial during detoxification and recovery, individuals must first reveal their weaknesses and ask for help. This brings with it fear of ridicule and a perceived loss of pride.

Sometimes addicts hesitate to seek help because they even fear success. After all, when a person is addicted, the fear of being without drugs can seem as strong as the desire to be free of them. And of course, the fear of failure is another factor that deters many people from rigorously attempting to become drug-free.

Since drug rehab centers are specifically created to assist people in becoming drug free though, many of these fears can easily be assuaged. At a professional, well-organized drug rehab center, the staff lovingly welcomes every victim of drug addiction. They understand the difficult task ahead of each guest and they work to replace the need for drugs and the negative feelings that those substances cultivate with satisfying substitutes like companionship, community, confidence and self-esteem.

When choosing a drug rehab center, individuals should look for a comfortable place in a peaceful environment with a staff trained to focus on each person’s individual needs. Clean, beautiful bedrooms, local recreation facilities, Jacuzzi spas and a peaceful environment can all contribute to making the difficult transition a little easier. Whether you are expelling the drugs from your system, strengthening self-control, building self-esteem or preparing to return to life as a drug-free individual, each part of the rehab process will be easier when you have encouragement and beauty all around you.

Drug addiction can be a lonely and challenging trial since it is fought on a battleground within one’s self, but with a professional team to provide support, the road to freedom can be a little easier.

Todd Lange asked:

To administer the alcohol addiction treatment there are various number of ways. But the authentic treatment process at the rehabilitation center includes three main phases: such as the intervention phase, the detoxification phase and the aftercare phase.

Each phase of these three phases has certain significance. The first phase is the intervention phase. In this phase the person is told about seriousness of his or her alcoholism. This is like a preparatory phase where the person is explained and made to realize that they need a treatment for his or her condition. But this may be very difficult initially, because of denial which is the most obvious factors in the alcohol addiction treatment in Idaho. Hence the treatment providers take the help of families and friends of the patients to build a strong support and to motivate them to accept an addiction treatment.

After the intervention phase, they are taken for the detoxification phase. In this phase the patient will be medically cleansed of all alcohol accumulated in the body from a very long time. This process takes time, as there are various factors influencing it such as the length of patient’s addiction, their physical and psychiatric composition, whether or not they are on some other kinds of prescription drugs, etc. However, in some cases, the duration of alcohol detox is of about seven days but due to these factors it may increase.

The main aim of the detox program is to bring the patient out of the alcohol addiction in a complete manner. Hence the person’s body is cleansed completely out of the person’s system. It is not as simple because if the patient’s addiction is too much intensive. There are some bold steps taken, which means the patient will be isolated in a treatment setting where he or she will be made to completely abstain from alcohol. This helps to keep them away from all kinds of memories that might trigger a craving for alcohol in them. In such a setting the patient may take sometime to adjust. In this way the patient may experience withdrawal symptoms. This symptom can be seen usually within two to five days of the commencement of the abstinence but this again depends on the kind of addiction the patient has been in.

One of the difficult tasks in this is to remove the withdrawal symptoms from the person. But this does not seem to be an easy task. The patient needs to be put on specific medicinal therapies in order to make this happen.

Some of the patterns of medication are used in alcohol addiction treatment are:-

1. Medications are provided n order to increase the hangovers that are produced due to alcohol addiction. Hence this will cause them psychologically free from the addiction because these symptoms are definitely quite inconvenient and uncomfortable. It is noticed that the hangover symptoms due to alcoholism are produced because of the release of acetaldehyde in the body. So any medication that will pump in more acetaldehyde into the body can be taken as a way of stopping the person from consuming more alcohol. Antabuse is the leading anti-alcoholism drug that has this effect. When consumed, it will produce an increase in the amount of acetaldehyde in the body and that will amplify the hangover. As a result, the person will not like alcohol quite as much.

2. Another way of treating alcohol addiction is during the treatment is by providing with a drug that reduces their capacity of absorbing alcohol in the body. Because of which the person might consume alcohol may not feel any of its effects. After sometime, the person will give up alcohol in the absence of the effects that the substance must produce. This drug is called the Naltrexone.

3. After these medications it is also important to normalize the condition of the patient’s nervous system once the alcoholic abstinence has begun. This is needed so that the person feels healthy once again and realizes that the removal of alcohol from their system can actually bring back good health unto them. A medication such as Campral helps to regularize the chemical reactions that take place in their body due to alcoholism. This is more of a stabilizing drug that allows the patient to plow on with the detoxification process.

These medications ensure that the person will stay out of the addiction for a long period of time. This can be possible through the aftercare program, which is followed after the successful detox treatment. However, there might be differences in the way the program is implemented in various centers across the state.

Kathy Kyle Thompson asked:

In essence, people can naturally detoxify toxic substances without support. Yet, with the growing amount of toxins that are being ingested into the body through water consumption, environment, and the food that people eat, can build up.

Detox (detoxification) is a term that’s came into popular use in the last decade or so but only within the realm of alternative or holistic Western medicine.

Step back and ask yourself what’s really going on. When you’re caught up in the day to day stuff of everyday life, you may lose sight of objectivity. Take a few minutes everyday to reflect on what happened during the day. Was there a lesson to learn? Is there a gift you may have overlooked even if it was that you consider a bad day. Was the step back really a step forward? 1.Blood and Lymphatic – Strengthens and invigorates the blood and lymph fluids. 2.Cardiovascular – Greatly improves circulation in the body. 3.Liver and Gallbladder – Rejuvenates the liver. 4.Lungs – Dissolves and expels mucus buildup in the lungs. 5.Kidneys and Bladder – Flushes the kidneys/bladder by removing excess uric acid buildup. 6.Colon Conditioner – Helps to stimulate bowel movement. 7.Carbon – Removes all the toxic residues we unwisely put into our bodies.

Illegal drugs and alcohol are addicting. Records show that the younger you are when you experiment with illegal drugs or alcohol you are more prone to become an addict in the future.

Drug Abuse & Demand Reduction

Drug abuse is a global phenomenon. It affects almost every country, although its extent and characteristics differ from region to region. Drug abuse trends around the world, especially among youth, have started to converge over the last few decades.

The most widely consumed drug worldwide is cannabis. Three-quarters of all countries report abuse of heroin and two-thirds report abuse of cocaine. Drug-related problems include increased rates of crime and violence, susceptibility to HIV/AIDS and hepatitis, demand for treatment and emergency room visits and a breakdown in social behavior. Demand reduction strategies seek to prevent the onset of drug use, help drug users break the habit and provide treatment through rehabilitation and social reintegration.

To reduce or eliminate drug abuse, governments need up-to-date statistics on who is taking drugs and why. The Global Programme on Drug Abuse has established one global and nine regional systems to collect reliable and internationally comparable drug abuse data and to assess the magnitude and patterns of drug abuse at the country, regional and global levels. Drug abuse cuts across age, class, ethnic and gender lines. By working with grass-roots groups, private businesses and other community partners, it supports projects addressing the needs of specific populations, such as street children and those trying to cope with neglect, violence and sexual abuse. These strategies help disadvantaged groups to avoid high-risk behavior and settings that give rise to a range of problems, including the use of illicit drugs and alcohol.

Access to Treatment and Rehabilitation

These also include aerosol cleaners, gasoline, cleaning fluids, butane, and acetone. These things are legal to sell or buy however, they are not controlled substances and they are relatively cheap when compared with drugs. Wrong consumption of substances that other people may claim that these things can help in detoxification can impact the overall process.

Detox methods include dietary changes, fasting, supplements, exercise, yoga/meditation, improving the environment (using CFC-free hairsprays, for example), New Age methods include aromatherapy, salt bath, skin brushing, etc.

Time is relative and no two individuals will give the same measurement of time to achieve their goals. It depends on what you are accustomed to in your life.

Because our bodies today are the same as in the past, it is critical to eat, drink, and live the same as in years past – centuries past. But modern societies are adopting one of the most unnatural lifestyles known to mankind.

People with drug abuse problems have different needs. Women, the young, the poor, refugees and ethnic and religious minorities need easier access to early intervention and services. Once in treatment, drug abusers may need job training and referral, assistance in finding housing and reintegrating into society. Drug abusers who commit crimes require alternative treatment in order to break the cycle of drug abuse and crime.

The Global Youth Network project is creating a network of participatory youth organizations that work for drug abuse prevention. Our activities include experience-sharing meetings, how-to guides on innovative techniques on drug abuse prevention written for and by young people and an active e-mail listserv. The Youth Network web site also provides an on-line resource for groups who want to improve their projects or who want to start new drug abuse prevention programmes. At the end of 2002, an estimated 42 million people around the world were living with HIV/AIDS. During the same year, five million new infections were reported, while the epidemic claimed and estimated 3.1 million lives. One third of the people living with HIV/AIDS are between 15 and 24 years old. Injecting drug abuse is among the major forces driving the epidemic, attributing to around five per cent of HIV transmission., a cosponsor of UNAIDS since 1999, has been mainstreaming HIV/AIDS prevention into its demand reduction activities globally, with an emphasis on promoting skills development and helping young people live a healthy, drug-free life.

The programme also supports prevention activities to limit the spread of HIV/AIDS among injecting drug abusers, and through them, to their spouses, children and the general population.

Hope that this programme continues to run so that it protects the people from the social destruction. And make the country grow I the healthy and peaceful environment

There are a variety of ways that drug and alcohol rehab work to help a person stop abusing a controlled substance. One way is commonly referred to as ‘cold turkey’. There has been a lot in the news lately about the amazing healing properties of turmeric, a free-radical-fighting antioxidant-rich curry spice that has been hailed as a defense against both cancer and Alzheimer’s.

The dangerous problem of heavy metal toxicity can be facilitated by eliminating the source of the toxicity and utilizing Heavy Metal Detox.

Conventional, mainstream (allopathic) medical practitioners have yet to latch on to this concept, since they’re only trained to treat diseases and symptoms specifically without treating the patient as a whole. Research has shown that addiction is treatable. Drug Detox today and pass your drug test!

Vegetables are one of the best detoxifying agents. Hence, it is best to create a meal plan that has no less than 50% leafy, green vegetables. Drug Detox today and pass your drug test!

Todd Lange asked:

There are several forms of alcohol addiction treatment in New Jersey. However, that does not mean looking for alcohol treatment programs in the state becomes any simpler. The great amount of diversity that is present in the state is what makes things confusing. It becomes difficult to select a program that will be appropriate for the needs of the patient. Here are some points that you must consider when you are looking for a rehab program for alcohol addiction treatment in New Jersey.

1. Look at what the program entails. This is extremely important. You must know that every program for alcohol addiction treatment in New Jersey is different. Some of these programs are more about conventional medication therapies, while some of these follow holistic and alternative treatment methods such as herbal medicines, spiritual therapies, etc. You need to make sure how the program will be implemented. You can read on their website to find out how the program will be conducted. This becomes a significant parameter to decide whether you would like to go ahead with the program or not.

2. You have to also look at what medications will be included in the therapies. The way in which the program proceeds will depend greatly on what medication is used. Also the costs of the treatment will depend on those medications. For example, there are two main forms of medications used in heroin treatment in New Jersey. These are methadone and buprenorphine. Both these medications work in different ways. While methadone is a stronger opiate medication, buprenorphine is milder. However, methadone has more side effects on the body of the addicted person while buprenorphine does not.

3. The third thing you need to check out is what facilities are included in the treatment program. Consider the detox treatment for example. Not all centers for alcohol addiction treatment in New Jersey have the detoxification phase. Some of these centers might refer the patient to an external center for the detox treatment. This will make things difficult for the patient. Nursing care is also different in different centers. Some of the centers will have a fulltime nursing care while some of them will have nursing care only for a few hours a day.

4. Also look at what kinds of licenses the treatment center has. It should definitely be licensed for providing alcohol addiction treatment in New Jersey and in addition it must have licenses if it is offering special kinds of treatment programs such as detoxification.

5. Accreditation is another thing that you need to look for. The treatment center must ideally have an accreditation from a federal institute, or at least from a state institute. If the program is accredited, it means that the external institute has checked the program of the center and has found it to be worthy. In a similar manner, if the treatment program has several affiliates, it bodes well for the program because that indicates the kind of support the treatment center enjoys.

6. Look at the qualifications of the treatment providers at the center too. You have to make sure that they are qualified to provide alcohol addiction treatment and have the necessary amount of experience. It is always considered good if the treatment providers are qualified through a center such as the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

7. For your own convenience, check if the program is qualified. A qualified program is a state approved program. A program for alcohol addiction treatment in New Jersey will also enjoy other benefits such as guaranteed insurance coverage and easier modes of payment. You can get a list of the qualified programs for alcohol treatment through the state health website or by visiting federal websites such as those of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Institute of Drug Abuse and the National Clearinghouse.

These are just some of the points that you need to consider when you are looking at a program on alcoholism treatment within the state of New Jersey. It is always a good idea to begin searching from the state health website, or you can start from the Facility Locator link found on the website of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. This will ensure that you get a program that is qualified for treatment and is also authentic in the way it is implemented. Most importantly, select a program that will suit the needs of the patient in question.

Helen Hecker asked:

Although detoxification is not a treatment for pain killer addiction, it can help relieve withdrawal symptoms while the patient adjusts to being free of pain killers or other prescription drugs. An opioid-dependent pain patient has improved function with the use of the drug while an opioid-addicted patient does not have improvement. Common side effects and adverse reactions of pain killers are: nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, dry mouth, miosis (contraction of the pupil), orthostatic hypotension (blood pressure drops upon sudden standing) — often happens when arising too fast when getting out of bed in the morning, urinary retention, constipation and fecal impaction.

Addiction to pain killers is an escalating problem today, especially the abuse of opioid pain killers. There are a number of effective treatment options to treat pain killer addiction to prescription opioids and to help manage the sometimes severe withdrawal symptoms that can accompany sudden stopping of pain killers or drugs. Less common side effects and adverse reactions of pain killers are: confusion, hallucinations, delirium, hives, itching, hypothermia, bradycardia (slow heart rate), tachycardia (rapid heart rate), raised intracranial pressure, ureteric or biliary spasm, muscle rigidity and flushing.

More than 10% of high school seniors have started taking Vicodin for reasons other than reducing pain. When you’re addicted physically to a drug, like pain killers or alcohol, etc., it’s because you’ve suppressed or shut down your body’s production of endorphins, which are natural opiate pain killers; when this happens you start craving the drug that you replaced the endorphins with whether it’s alcohol, any of a number of drugs or pain killers. Opioids used as the doctor has prescribed are supposedly not dangerous according to some well-established medical groups; but if this is the case, why are so many people addicted to them?

If you think you are addicted and want to get off pain killers or other drugs, it’s best to get detoxified as fast as you can and then go through some type of rehabilitation; it’s important to have others to lean on and learn from and offer support to you. Pain killer addiction includes: opiate dependency, opiate addiction, narcotic dependency, narcotic addiction, and pain killer dependency or painkiller dependency. Addiction is both a biological and psychological condition.

Chronic pain affects one out of three or four adults; millions of people suffer from severe disabling pain. 2.2 million people aged 12 and up first abused painkillers within the past year; this is more than the number of people who started using marijuana and has overtaken the use of cocaine. There are many side effects and adverse reactions that can occur with the use of opioids as pain killers.

Find out from your local health professionals where the closest and best pain killer addiction treatment centers are. Taking the time to spend in a treatment center, detoxing, is of the utmost priority. All other demands of children, a job, school, or any other responsibilities may make inpatient treatment seem like an intrusion but it’s not.

If you can’t do an in-patient rehab, find out how you can do outpatient rehab and pay for it under your insurance plan; check your insurance policy to see if it’s covered. If you don’t have insurance, check with your local mental health agencies to see what is available that’s free. There are many pain killer addiction treatment facilities located throughout the United States, Canada and the rest of the world.

The body’s natural pain killers, endorphins, have been replaced by these pain killing drugs; get them flowing again with lots of laughter. Knowing some of these facts and understanding endorphin production will help get you on the road to pain killer addiction recovery fast; start working on it today and hopefully you’ll notice changes tomorrow. The many problems that are associated with pain killer addiction and abuse have experts, doctors and authorities searching for solutions.
