Regardless of the orientation of the treatment program, treatment strategies designed to bring about changes in the lifestyle of the patient are essential.  For example, if the patient returns to the same friends and activities that were a part of their lives prior to treatment, relapse is highly probable.  The need for long term drug rehab for alcoholic and drug addicted individuals is the most effective way of addressing these life style changes.

The issues of friends, lovers, family members, and acquantices are a focus of an effective long term drug rehab.  If a patient has close associations with individuals who abuse drugs and alcohol, some difficult and painful decisions must be made.  These topics will be discussed in residential drug rehabs that offer counseling, social skills, and life skills therapy in order to enhance their ability to make new friends.  Many alcoholics and drug addicts have used mind altering substances to feel comfortable in social situations or as a common bond between other drug or alcohol abusers.   This difficulty of life skills is more prevalent in adolescent drug rehab facilities.

Since most people who are addicted to drugs or alcohol have used these substances to avoid negative emotions or to manage stress and pain, alternative drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers provide methods of dealing with common life problems.  These life skill therapies include stress management techniques, relaxation procedures, and assertiveness training.  The intent of such therapy, training and counseling is to provide the patient with skills to use in situations or in response to situations where drugs or alcohol use was the only solution.

You can easily see why some drug rehabs are more effective than others.  These practical but life saving training procedures is only offered in some forms of alcohol and drug treatment centers.  A drug rehab program that offers long term treatment, cognitive counseling, life skills therapy, and an intensive aftercare is by far the most effective in ending drug or alcohol addiction.  To find out more about treatment go to www.alcohol-drug-treatment.com.

Memories of past failures, bad treatment from others and sense of loss continue to haunt most drug addicts even after they had kicked the habit. Such excruciating memories sometimes even drag the graduated addict back into the world of drugs and alcohol. The primary guilty party here is the drug rehab treatment itself. Most drug rehab programs just cure the body only. They never care to treat the mind, which is the real culprit in addiction cases and thus throw open the door for re-addiction.

This is where the importance of education programs in drug rehab comes in. The Narconon drug rehab treatment is a qualitative jump over the older therapies in that it addresses the need of the body and mind in one go. It has been found that most addicts have a sense of inferiority, lack self confidence and crave for support. Even though Narconon method treats every aspect in a holistic way, only a few of them have added proper education programs in drug rehab programs.

Drug addiction pulls the victim into a make believe world where they drown all their sorrows and concerns in the dominion of drugs. The biggest task faced in drug rehab is to shatter this dominion and free the unfortunate psyche. This is a long process where great patience, case and attention are called for from the part of the drug rehab centre and its staff. I should caution here that the process is not as simple as you read. It is like teaching a pre-schooler and preparing him to face greater challenges. Like every child, an addict also tends to make mistakes and forgets his basics. However, I would like to add here that these educational programmes have saved the lives of most people who when through them.

Education programs imparted by our best rehab centres contain learning material on effective communication, courageous handling of adverse situations, and solve his or her problems without outside aid. The addict learns to be sincere to himself as well as his near and dear ones. He is taught the lessons of responsibility, gratitude to the almighty, and how to lead a successful life.

Such an all encompassing educational therapy can be instituted only if the centre has the requisite expertise, adequate infrastructure, and to top it all, the right attitude. The time taken for cure differs from addict to addict, depending to his ability to adjust and adapt. It is a slow process, as it takes time to wipe out the negative blots a drug addict picked up during his life as an addict.

Our civil society respects only the responsible and the achiever. An addict is often treated as a pariah by the community, but the family members often bear the brunt of having a drug addict in the family. They also need to be educated as to how to behave with a graduated addict and not to hurt his feelings. A good rehab centre provides educative counselling to the family members of the addict before he is discharged.

The next question is where to find such a great drug rehab centre. The Internet is replete with options. But I would like to advise that you go for a rehab centre that has gained the respect of common people as well as our leaders. It the rehab centre can produce testimonials about the credibility of their treatment methods from our respected institutions, that centre is the one for you. Do not go anywhere else.

Gregory Frost asked:

Addictions are the bane of our lives and although we all will not admit it, addictions are part and parcel of everyone in this world. We may say that we do not have any addictions to speak of, but smoking and drugs and alcohol are only the famous addictions that define the people we see on television. Those are not the only things in the world that we can be addicted to. Just look at America, one of the most obese countries in the world with a population that has a serious problem in their addiction to food.

While this is common knowledge and programmes are in place for the prevention of this being exacerbated, the population of obese people has increased. What about the addiction to sugar? What about the addiction to video games. Addictions are all over the place and there has even been talk that being lazy is also addiction. Anything that represents weakness in the mind is called addiction because we are unable to control ourselves beyond a point of being slaves to our needs and cravings. We know there is a problem there but we continue to replicate the actions that in the end of the day, will only lead to the downfall of our success and even possibly lead us to many problems (like health).

Addiction does not come from the food we eat nor does it come from the very drugs that we consume. Addiction to alcohol does not come from the taste of the whiskey or the smooth feeling that beer gives you. Addiction to cigarettes is not because of the way it tastes and how cool you may look. Addiction does not exist in a double cheeseburger from McDonalds.

What happens is that whatever makes you feel good is going to be registered into the subconscious of the mind because of its nature as a base and raw emotion. Soon, after continued use of the object or food or drug, the body will then settle into a small equation of association. Your mind will then associated feeling good to the consuming of the item.

Soon, feeling this good becomes part of your bodily functions and when you do not have this for a period of time, your subconscious will urge you to have it. Now when it urges you, it does not only remind you of how good it can feel, but it also starts a series of unfortunate events which are often associated with first stage withdrawal symptoms which can be quite unpleasant.

Thus, it seems that to appease these symptoms, you almost have to go back to consuming or taking this thing. And thus it has reached a stage where it has become an addiction and now you know the root of this addiction – which is your mind. It is in your mind and to get rid of this, you have to fight fire with fire and erase it from your subconscious with brainwave entrainment technology, that allows you to reprogram your subconscious.

Kathy Kyle Thompson asked:

In essence, people can naturally detoxify toxic substances without support. Yet, with the growing amount of toxins that are being ingested into the body through water consumption, environment, and the food that people eat, can build up.

Detox (detoxification) is a term that’s came into popular use in the last decade or so but only within the realm of alternative or holistic Western medicine.

Step back and ask yourself what’s really going on. When you’re caught up in the day to day stuff of everyday life, you may lose sight of objectivity. Take a few minutes everyday to reflect on what happened during the day. Was there a lesson to learn? Is there a gift you may have overlooked even if it was that you consider a bad day. Was the step back really a step forward? 1.Blood and Lymphatic – Strengthens and invigorates the blood and lymph fluids. 2.Cardiovascular – Greatly improves circulation in the body. 3.Liver and Gallbladder – Rejuvenates the liver. 4.Lungs – Dissolves and expels mucus buildup in the lungs. 5.Kidneys and Bladder – Flushes the kidneys/bladder by removing excess uric acid buildup. 6.Colon Conditioner – Helps to stimulate bowel movement. 7.Carbon – Removes all the toxic residues we unwisely put into our bodies.

Illegal drugs and alcohol are addicting. Records show that the younger you are when you experiment with illegal drugs or alcohol you are more prone to become an addict in the future.

Drug Abuse & Demand Reduction

Drug abuse is a global phenomenon. It affects almost every country, although its extent and characteristics differ from region to region. Drug abuse trends around the world, especially among youth, have started to converge over the last few decades.

The most widely consumed drug worldwide is cannabis. Three-quarters of all countries report abuse of heroin and two-thirds report abuse of cocaine. Drug-related problems include increased rates of crime and violence, susceptibility to HIV/AIDS and hepatitis, demand for treatment and emergency room visits and a breakdown in social behavior. Demand reduction strategies seek to prevent the onset of drug use, help drug users break the habit and provide treatment through rehabilitation and social reintegration.

To reduce or eliminate drug abuse, governments need up-to-date statistics on who is taking drugs and why. The Global Programme on Drug Abuse has established one global and nine regional systems to collect reliable and internationally comparable drug abuse data and to assess the magnitude and patterns of drug abuse at the country, regional and global levels. Drug abuse cuts across age, class, ethnic and gender lines. By working with grass-roots groups, private businesses and other community partners, it supports projects addressing the needs of specific populations, such as street children and those trying to cope with neglect, violence and sexual abuse. These strategies help disadvantaged groups to avoid high-risk behavior and settings that give rise to a range of problems, including the use of illicit drugs and alcohol.

Access to Treatment and Rehabilitation

These also include aerosol cleaners, gasoline, cleaning fluids, butane, and acetone. These things are legal to sell or buy however, they are not controlled substances and they are relatively cheap when compared with drugs. Wrong consumption of substances that other people may claim that these things can help in detoxification can impact the overall process.

Detox methods include dietary changes, fasting, supplements, exercise, yoga/meditation, improving the environment (using CFC-free hairsprays, for example), New Age methods include aromatherapy, salt bath, skin brushing, etc.

Time is relative and no two individuals will give the same measurement of time to achieve their goals. It depends on what you are accustomed to in your life.

Because our bodies today are the same as in the past, it is critical to eat, drink, and live the same as in years past – centuries past. But modern societies are adopting one of the most unnatural lifestyles known to mankind.

People with drug abuse problems have different needs. Women, the young, the poor, refugees and ethnic and religious minorities need easier access to early intervention and services. Once in treatment, drug abusers may need job training and referral, assistance in finding housing and reintegrating into society. Drug abusers who commit crimes require alternative treatment in order to break the cycle of drug abuse and crime.

The Global Youth Network project is creating a network of participatory youth organizations that work for drug abuse prevention. Our activities include experience-sharing meetings, how-to guides on innovative techniques on drug abuse prevention written for and by young people and an active e-mail listserv. The Youth Network web site also provides an on-line resource for groups who want to improve their projects or who want to start new drug abuse prevention programmes. At the end of 2002, an estimated 42 million people around the world were living with HIV/AIDS. During the same year, five million new infections were reported, while the epidemic claimed and estimated 3.1 million lives. One third of the people living with HIV/AIDS are between 15 and 24 years old. Injecting drug abuse is among the major forces driving the epidemic, attributing to around five per cent of HIV transmission., a cosponsor of UNAIDS since 1999, has been mainstreaming HIV/AIDS prevention into its demand reduction activities globally, with an emphasis on promoting skills development and helping young people live a healthy, drug-free life.

The programme also supports prevention activities to limit the spread of HIV/AIDS among injecting drug abusers, and through them, to their spouses, children and the general population.

Hope that this programme continues to run so that it protects the people from the social destruction. And make the country grow I the healthy and peaceful environment

There are a variety of ways that drug and alcohol rehab work to help a person stop abusing a controlled substance. One way is commonly referred to as ‘cold turkey’. There has been a lot in the news lately about the amazing healing properties of turmeric, a free-radical-fighting antioxidant-rich curry spice that has been hailed as a defense against both cancer and Alzheimer’s.

The dangerous problem of heavy metal toxicity can be facilitated by eliminating the source of the toxicity and utilizing Heavy Metal Detox.

Conventional, mainstream (allopathic) medical practitioners have yet to latch on to this concept, since they’re only trained to treat diseases and symptoms specifically without treating the patient as a whole. Research has shown that addiction is treatable. Drug Detox today and pass your drug test!

Vegetables are one of the best detoxifying agents. Hence, it is best to create a meal plan that has no less than 50% leafy, green vegetables. Drug Detox today and pass your drug test!

Rosemary Grace Brooks asked:

Narcotic drugs and alcohol are very physically addictive substances accounting for the rise in drug and alcohol addiction rates yearly. Once the body is dependent on the substance for normality, the absence of the substance will cause great pain and discomfort to be inflicted on the individual, known as withdrawal.

Addiction

Drug and alcohol addiction counselling and detox are highly controversial topics and met with many mixed beliefs and schools of thought, especially when physical and non-physical drug addiction is concerned. Unlike previously when addiction was considered a moral failing, professionals have now been opting towards a more successful approach of addiction treatment. Many experts and professionals have come to view addiction as a disease which is progressive and fatal if not treated. The disease can however be arrested through ceasing all addictive behaviour accompanied by counselling and a daily programme of recovery.

Physical addiction and the need for detox

Opiates such as heroin and codeine, benzodiazepines such as Valium and Rohypnol, some amphetamines such as methamphetamines (eg Tik) and ethyl-alcohol (the type of alcohol found in regular alcoholic drinks such as whisky and beer), are substances which the human body becomes dependant on when exposed to their effects over a certain period of time. Quaaludes, anabolic steroids, beta blockers, caffeine and nicotine also cause dependence.

Physical dependency can only be overcome through the addicted individual abstaining from use of the addictive substances. This will cause the body to go into a state of withdrawal, as it is dependent on the substance for functioning.

Treatment centres, rehabilitation centres and hospitals usually offer detoxification programmes for drug and alcohol addiction. Detoxification can be extremely harmful, even fatal. The process is nick-named “detox” and is carefully monitored by professionals.

In many instances, the patient is given medication to ease their discomfort during the detox. This discomfort usually results in the use of drugs to rid themselves of the symptoms. It has been found that regulated and decreasing doses of a pharmaceutical replacement with similar actions as an addictive drug is useful in allowing addicts to be “weaned off” the substance without unbearable discomfort.

Detox

When an addict or alcoholic is willing to enter a treatment programme to treat their addiction, many rehab centres require that patients are “clean” of all drugs and substances. The patient will need generally to pass a drug or alcohol test indicating that their systems are free of substances. If a client enters a treatment programme whilst still under the influence of a narcotic or alcohol, it may affect the safety of the other clients and the individual themselves.

The process of a drug and alcohol detox differs for each treatment centre offering the service. Some rehabs do not offer detoxes and require the client to attend a detox in a hospital or separate clinic as the rehab may not have the correct facilities to offer detoxification. The process is an extremely difficult ordeal for the addict to experience and must be handled with a great deal of professionalism. Alcoholic detoxes can cause delirium tremors, inducing hallucinations and violent behaviour. Only qualified, experienced and able professionals should administer a detox to a withdrawing addict or alcoholic.

Counselling

A detox programme can take a week or more to complete, although secondary withdrawals will follow after this; they are less severe than initial withdrawals, not requiring medication or facilitation. Once a detox has been completed, the client is advised to enter an addiction treatment programme at a rehab.

Drug and alcohol addiction counselling is an effective method of treating any form of addiction, helping the client to become a normal and functioning member of society. Group therapy and individual therapy is widely considered the most effective method of drug and alcohol addiction treatment, coupled with a healthy lifestyle and the adoption of a Twelve Step Programme as a way of maintaining abstinence and sobriety.

Counselling and a Twelve Step Programme help to enable the patient to cope with behaviours, past grievances, emotions and dynamics in their lives and to piece together a practical and realistic approach to life. Whilst the patient needs to stop using drugs and alcohol, counselling will help improve their lives much further. Abstinence plus change is the main aim of a recovering addict.

The life of a drug addict and alcoholic needn’t be bad or hindered. Addicts have the potential to be very successful and productive people if they are able to stop their drug and alcohol use. Whilst this may require a detox, if followed with proper counselling and therapy plus the endorsement of a healthy lifestyle and application to a Twelve Step Programme, the person suffering from drug or alcohol addiction can arrest their disease and live a normal life again.

Mostly the people who find themselves surrounded by the problem of addiction of drugs and alcohol are suggested to go to a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center to get rid of this problem. Here they are treated with love and care with aim to help them get a better life.

When a person is unable to do his daily errands without the consumption of drugs and alcohols or he feels helpless without them, then he or she is advised to go and take the refuge in the drug and rehabilitation centre. The people with drug addiction often tend to lose their friends, career, family and even their self respect. If such people are unable to leave the drugs, these people are often forced to commit *******.

Most of the rehabilitation centers call this addiction a disease. They consider eating disorder, sex, drugs and alcohol as the symptoms of this problem. So when a person goes to a rehab center for his or her treatment, they focus on all the situations related to them.

First of all when a person arrives for treatment of drug and alcohol addiction, he is asked to fill up a form and answer the inquiries related to his or her problem. After all the formalities are finished, the addict is subjected to a blood and a urine test, the reports of which are sent to a doctor.

If the addict has been using these drugs for a very long time, the body of the patient is very weak and dependent on these drugs. Such patients require a proper detoxification as well.

Every drug and rehab center has its own programs but the main programs are usually the same such as, individual therapy, group therapy, meals, walks, written work and sleep.

In the beginning the patient is not permitted to meet or to have any contact with outsider that includes his friends and family members as he can create troubles for them. The patient gets accustomed to the life of the center in a week or so. The addicts are really scared and afraid to go to any such rehab center in the beginning.

So if you are caught in the addiction habit and really wish to get rid of this habit, its not too late, just go to a nice rehabilitation center and get freed from the addiction.

The drug and alcohol rehab program and treatment Program use a unique 4 phrase approach to completely rehabilitate the drug addict in dealing with the desire for drugs and the use of drugs as an escape. The success rate is much higher than other drug and alcohol programs.

Phase 1 of the 4 phase approach rids the body of drug residue by using the body’s ability to sweat the toxins while using a Sauna.

Phase 2 is designed to teach control by Special Education Therapies.

Phase 3 to learn how to realize ones self-worth and control the need for drugs by Additional Special Education Therapies.

Phase 4 helps the graduates to return to a normal life with a Follow-Up Program.

The Sauna Based, drug-free detox program is the cornerstone approach to rehabilitation of the drug and alcohol addict. Drugs and alcohol has an effect on the body years after being drug-free. Residues from these drugs can cause symptoms of depression, and drug cravings. Exercise programs that are supervised by medical personnel, vitamins, and sweating, by using a sauna, rid the fatty tissue of residues in the body from the drugs. The addict will no longer experience the symptoms of depression, etc. from drug abuse.

Following the detox program, therapies are used to aid the former addict in self-control and to set goals in life, deal with difficult times and not need drugs anymore. Therapy is used to teach the addict the importance of self and to build confidence. Sometimes the addict will do harm to themselves or loved ones and become more dependants on drugs or alcohol. After completion of these therapies, the former drug addict has confidence in themselves and in the ability to confront the problems of life.

The discharge program assist’s the student for a year while making a new life. Regular contact is made and adjustments as necessary. This helps both the student and their family back into a life in society without drugs.

The drug rehab program delivers unmatched results and is documented by many social research groups. Graduates regain their life with self-confidence, self-control and the ability to achieve their life goals without the dependence of drugs.

Drug rehab treatment is a series of steps done in an exact sequence. The detox program is a drug free program that removes the drug residue from the body and reduces the chance of relapse The Learning Programs helps the individual withdraw from the drug-abuse, helps them to become involved in society and with family, helps them gain self-control and become responsible for themselves and others. The Program also helps them address the reason why they started using drugs in the first place. There is no fixed time for recovery in the program; it takes as long as it takes to get results. The Program has a critical element in that it doesn’t use drugs in the detoxification of the drug addict. Drug and alcohol dependence denies the user a free life of hope and promise. The goal of the program is very simple, to give it back to a person much deserving of a free life of hope and promise.

Drug addiction is a complicated disease that overwhelms both the addict and those who love him. After abusing drugs for a period of time, the user becomes both physically and emotionally dependent upon the drug. Understanding the differences between drug abuse and drug dependence, and how the two relate to one another, is vital in helping the addict recover from this devastating disease.

* Understanding Drug Abuse

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV), published by the American Psychiatric Association, provides definitions and criteria for making diagnostic judgments relating to the use of drugs and alcohol.

According to the DSM-IV, the essential features of substance abuse are a “maladaptive pattern of substance use manifested by recurrent and significant adverse consequences related to the repeated use of substances.”

Drug addiction occurs when a person uses any form of drug for a purpose or in a way other than for what it was created. Most commonly, drug abuse is associated with illicit, or illegal, drugs, however, Drug addiction can also take place with over-the-counter and prescription drugs as well.

Illicit drugs such as marijuana, heroin, and cocaine are commonly abused drugs. Others such as nicotine and alcohol, though legal, are also drugs that get abused. In addition, some people abuse prescription and over-the-counter drugs that are meant to help people in some way, such as oxycontin and even cough syrup. In this case, the drug addict does not actually need the drug for its intended purpose. Instead, the abuser chooses to use it in order to get high.

* Understanding Drug Dependency

The DSM-IV describes addiction as follows: “The essential feature of substance dependence is a cluster of cognitive, behavioral, and physiological symptoms indicating that the individual continues use of the substance despite significant substance related problems.”

A person who abuses drugs is not necessarily dependent upon the drug, they will however, ultimately develop a dependency for the substance. The amount of time it takes for person to become dependent on a drug depends on the individual and the type of drug that is abused. For some people, abusing a drug just one time can lead to dependency. For others, it may take several incidents of abuse for a dependency to develop. In addition, drugs such as alcohol and codeine often need to be abused several times before dependency occurs. On the other hand, a person may become addicted to heroin or cocaine after just one use.

A person who is dependent on the drug is considered to be addicted. This is because the person feels the need to abuse the drug in order to feel “normal.” This dependence can be either physical or psychological, or both. For example, a person who is dependent upon cigarettes may be physically dependent on the nicotine but also psychologically addicted to having something in their mouth. They may also be psychologically addicted to the feeling they gets after smoking a cigarette. Therefore, a person trying to overcome nicotine addiction needs to overcome both forms of dependency in order to fully recover.

* Drug Tolerance

Building a tolerance for a drug exacerbates both drug abuse and dependency. After using a drug for a period of time, a drug addict requires more of the drug in order to achieve a high – or even to feel normal. As a result, they need to abuse more of the drug in order to satisfy the dependency. This vicious cycle is what often leads to an overdose, or taking more of the drug than the body can safely handle.

Unfortunately, addicts who overdose often do not receive the medical help they need. They may be so addicted to the drug that they cannot face the prospect of being forced to stop abusing the it. It can also be because they are physically unable to reach help or because they refuse to seek help. Many will not seek help because they are afraid of getting into legal trouble for drug abuse.

Sadly, failure to seek help often results in death for the addict. Even those who do receive prompt medical attention may not live past the overdose.

* Withdrawal

When an addict seeks help for drug addiction, they will have to endure a detoxification period. During this time, the addict is not allowed the drug any longer. Because the addict is dependent upon the drug, withdrawal can very painful both physically and psychologically.

Physically, the addict’s body has become used to the effects of the drug. As a result, his body reacts adversely when it is denied more of the substance. Physical withdrawal symptoms vary from person to person and according to the type of drug abused. Common physical withdrawal symptoms, however, include severe headaches, vomiting, shaking, and increased blood pressure and heart rate.

Psychologically, an addict has come to depend on the drug to cause a certain effect. This effect can be to relieve pain or to bring about feelings of pleasure and the addict does not believe it is possible to achieve these same feelings without using the drug. This causes severe cravings and many addicts feel a great deal of stress while going through withdrawal. For this reason, drug rehab centers provide close monitoring of addicts during the withdrawal period.
