We all know the media play a vital role in this country. Even moreso today because it’s ‘a small world’ due to advances in technology. The press also has privileges/access the average citizen does not. There is no way overstate the importance of responsible, accurate reporting on events that effect our lives, our decisions, and our ‘votes’.
Any reasonable person will agree that the press Has Not Done Their Job lately!
Recent Examples…
This past election..especially during the primaries.
Biased/Slanted reporting on the Iraq war..(this has real consequences for our troops on the ground!) if you want an example just look at a recent story by the NYT that Falsely reported that our returning military members were ‘commiting murders’ at a much higher rate than the general population. This turned out to be a Flat Out LIE!
The events surrounding ‘the stimulus bill’ including this lates imo..Criminal Activity (in particular by our elected officials, Frank – Dodd – Geitner – and even the whitehouse) related to the AIG scandal.
So my point here is that the media holds a position of great power and responsibility in this country. I would argue it’s the most powerful influence in our day to day lives. If they report falsely.. many times the damage is done and no back-page retraction can repair the harm done. I’m sure you all know of cases where this has Cost Actual Lives!
Isn’t it time that we hold their ‘unelected’ feet to the fire and Make Them Pay A Price when they lie to us and abuse their power. I’m not calling for more damned government involvement here in private enterprises. We’ve seen too much of that lately! I’m simply saying that we write and call and raise hell with them just as we do when our government lies to us. Another advantage we have is we can vote with our wallets and our tv remotes. I think we’ve seen a very dangerous trend lately and it’s time to start making them Feel The Heat!
Your thoughts?
Another Lie from the New York Times!

Dr M: Very Good!
Buster: Good point.
Youth: Sounds like you made a good choice.
OK I’ll admit I used the word WAR to draw attention to my question (I learned that from to media) sorry lol.
“I would argue it’s the most powerful influence in our day to day lives.” Let me clarify this..Most powerful in relation to politics/information. ( Not our personal lives! )
Thanks!
